The Del-Mar-Va Council, Boy Scouts of America (BSA), has announced that Deborah Wicks the Retired Superintendent of the Smyrna School District has been selected to receive the 2017 Kent Distinguished Citizen Award.  She will be honored at the annual awards dinner on Thursday, September 21st at the Dover Downs Hotel and Conference Center.

For 33 years, the Distinguished Citizen Award event has been one of the Council’s premiere events.  The award is an annual recognition of those who give freely of their time and talents to improve the quality of life in Kent County.  Honorees are selected based on how the community has benefited from the individual’s contributions and the lasting effects those contributions have left on the community.  Past recipients have included Gregory V. Moore, Jennings and Lisa Hastings, D. Wayne Holden, Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Denis McGlynn, W.  Charles Paradee, John Burris, Bill and Mary Jane Willis, Bill Andrew, Ed Dulin, Brooks Banta, Jennifer Cohan and many more outstanding individuals.

The purpose of Boy Scouts of America is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship and to develop personal fitness. Funds raised from the dinner will help fund Scouting programs, including camp scholarships, recruitment efforts, supplies and adult leader training.

Tickets to the event are $125 each, which includes a donation to the Boy Scouts.  To reserve a table, learn more about sponsorship opportunities to support the dinner, or purchase an advertisement in the program, please select the Register button below.
