It is our pleasure to share with you the good news that Jim Harris will be honored as the Del-Mar-Va Council, Boy Scouts of America’s 2020 Mid-Shore Distinguished Citizens on Thursday, September 3, 2020, in a Virtual Reception.

Jim Harris and his wife Pam have had a home in Royal Oak, Maryland for over 25 years.  However, it was not until he retired from ExxonMobil in 2010, that Jim ever spent more than 2 weeks in a row at their Eastern Shore home.  Although their primary residence is in Texas, he has devoted some of his time to trying to make a difference in Talbot County.

Jim was a board member of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum for 7 years, serving as treasurer for 4 and chaired the board for 2 years.  Jim is currently a Board Member Emeritus at CBMM and a Trustee of the Academy Art Museum. Jim and Pam actively support cancer research at MD Anderson and Johns Hopkins, education at CBMM, and the St. Michaels YMCA.

During his career with ExxonMobil, Jim held domestic and international positions in the Chemical Company and with Exxon Corporation, retiring as Senior Vice President of the Chemical Company.  He was a member of the board of the European Chemical Industry Association (CEFIC), and he chaired the American Plastics Council.  While in Europe, Jim, an Eagle Scout was a member of the Executive Board of the Transatlantic Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Mr. Harris, a native of Vinton, VA, is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology (BChE with highest honors) and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (MBA).  He was named to Georgia Tech’s Engineering Hall of Fame in 2011 and has served on a variety of advisory committees and the Alumni Association Board.

Jim and Pam have been married for 46 years and split their time between Houston, the Eastern Shore, and their South Texas ranch.  They have two children, both of whom live in Texas.  His hobbies include golf, boating, hunting, model trains, cooking, and wine.

Recipients are selected for their outstanding service as evidenced by their leadership to many worthwhile organizations as well as the respect and esteem in which they are held by their colleagues.

There are various levels of Support and Individual Tickets are available.
