With Spring comes Season II of the Akridge Victory Gardens! To help ease some anxiety and get you out in the fresh air, the Del-Mar-Va Council is offering to our Scouts and local community members the chance to register for a 10' x 20' garden plot at Akridge Scout Reservation near Dover, Delaware. The plot will be available for you and your family to plant and tend in a safe environment while maintaining social distancing standards for the entire growing season. Plots have been tilled, soil chemistry balanced with proper fertilization for growing vegetables. Water, tools, many seed varieties and plants, and mulch are provided. The fee is only $25 per family and includes all of the above. Scholarships are available by request. You may choose to provide seeds and plants other than those offered with the approval of the garden manager.
During World War I and World War II citizens were encouraged to grow fruits and vegetables to minimize the demand on the public food system and provide relief to home budgets, those gardens became known as Victory Gardens. Consider this your Victory Garden 2.0!
