You can do all of these things by working this summer at one of the great camps within the Del-Mar-Va Council. Today’s camp staff are a diverse group of men and women sharing a dynamic experience offering independence, achievement, and stability. This is work that makes a difference, work that calls one to continual learning and challenge. Rodney Scout Reservation and Henson Scout Reservation serve 4,000+ Scouts BSA members plus leaders each summer over seven camper weeks. Scouts attending are from primarily Delaware, Virginia, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Scouts have also come from as far as Ohio, Florida, and Georgia. The season starts early to mid-June depending on the position and runs through mid-August. Work weeks last from Sunday noon to Saturday noon, with two nights off during the week, and Saturday into Sunday off after participant departure. Positions Available in: Handicraft, NEST (nature, ecology, science, technology), Brownsea (first-year camper), Climbing, Shooting Sports, Aquatics, Health & Fitness, Scoutcraft, Trading Post, Health Office, Commissioner Service, Dining Hall/Kitchen, Camp Leadership Essential Functions: -
Must be at least 15 years of age. -
Must be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America, or willing to become registered. -
Willing to complete a variety of other BSA trainings (included but not limited to Youth Protection Training and Weather Hazards). Specific Responsibilities: -
Under the supervision of the Area Director, run program area activities in an exciting and passionate manner. At a Webelos camp, this may include Webelos and Arrow of Light Adventures in addition to general activities. At a Scouts BSA camp, this may include Merit Badges, rank advancement requirements, or other awards in addition to general activities. -
Prepare or assist in the preparation of lesson and activity plans for all activities that are assigned. Lesson and activity plans should be easy to comprehend and cover any necessary requirements. -
At Scouts BSA camps, maintain accurate attendance and requirement records for Merit Badges and other relevant programs and provide these records to the Area Director. -
Maintain strict discipline at all times when campers, leaders, and other staff are in the area. -
Assist in the proper care, storage, and maintenance of all program and camp equipment. -
Inform the Area Director of any program supply needs. -
Assist in the set-up and take-down of all program areas and campsite facilities. -
Under the direction of the Camp Commissioner(s), act as a Site Guide for a unit. Help introduce them to camp, answer questions, and be a liaison between the unit and the commissioners throughout their week to help them have a successful week in their campsite. -
Exemplify the Scout Oath and Law. Support Boy Scouts of America (BSA) policies and the Aims and Methods of Scouting. Strive to provide a program that is exciting, dynamic, and appealing to today’s youth; that meets the needs of the youth and the units attending camp; and that is fun and safe. -
Support and participate in area and camp wide programs, as required. -
Other duties as assigned by the Area Director, Program Director, or Camp Director. Weekly Salary plus Room and Board: Based on position, responsibilities, tenure, and past performance. -
Flex Instructor (15) = $220 - $265 program areas, trading post, clerk -
Instructor/Staff (16+) = $220 - $300 program areas, trading post, clerk -
Senior Instructor/Staff (18+) = $300- $490 program areas, trading post, clerk, commissioner, ranger staff -
Director Level 1 (18+) = $335 - $540 archery director, trading post manager, boatyard director, business manager -
Director Level 2 (18+) = $385 - $590 assistant aquatics director, scoutcraft director, first year camper director, handicraft director health & fitness director, NEST (nature, ecology, science, technology) director, health officer, assistant ranger -
Director Level 3 (21+) =$430 - $635 climbing director, head commissioner, rifle director, shotgun director -
Director Level 4 (21+) = $480 - $685 assistant camp director, program director, aquatics director, shooting sports director Additional Salary -
Eagle Scout, Venturing Silver, Girl Scout Gold Award = $25 per week -
Positions with job-related certification obtained prior to staff training week (Lifeguard, NRA Instructor) = $25 -
Senior Instructor or Director Level 1 or Director Level 2 and 21+ = $50 per week -
Director Level 3 or Director Level 4 and 25+ = $50 per week
